Back in July, I posted that I had made it a goal to read 50 books in 2009. I thought I’d post the remainder of the list of books I read in 2009, since I never did that. Sadly, I only read like 7 more books in the last 5 months of last year since I got so busy with school. I didn’t post any of the books I read for school, even though – trust me – I read plenty. They just didn’t make the list. I didn’t meet my goal, but I still feel pretty accomplished considering everything else I was doing the last part of the year. So here’s the entire list:
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, J.K. Rowling (R)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling (R)
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling (R)
- The Tales of Beedle the Bard, J.K. Rowling (R)
- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling (Nish)
- Quidditch through the Ages, J.K. Rowling (Nish)
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling (R)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling (Eh)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling (R)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling (R)
- The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery (R)
- Dead Men’s Hearts, Aaron Elkins (R)
- Digital Fortress, Dan Brown (NR)
- Murder in the Queen’s Armes, Aaron Elkins (R)
- Twilight, Stephenie Meyer (R)
- Angels and Demons, Dan Brown (R)
- Midnight Sun, Kat Martin (NR)
- Past Perfect, Susan Isaacs (NR)
- Make No Bones, Aaron Elkins (R)
- The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams (R)
- Turncoat, Aaron Elkins (N)
- Bare Bones, Kathy Reichs (N)
- Timeline, Michael Crichton (R)
- The Fourth Bear, Jasper Fforde (N)
- The Eyre Affair, Jasper Fforde (R)
- Lost in a Good Book, Jasper Fforde (R)
- The Time Traveler’s Wife, Audrey Niffenegger (R)
- Northern Lights, Nora Roberts (N)
- Neverwhere, Neil Gaiman (N)
FYI – “R” means I would recommend the book, “N” means I felt pretty neutral towards the book, and “NR” means I wouldn’t recommend it. I put “eh” next to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix because it’s probably my least favorite of those books (I hate Harry in that book and I just never really liked Sirius Black) but I feel like I can’t not recommend a Harry Potter book…
My goal for this year is to read 30 books, we will see how that goes.
Would it have been 50 books if you’d included the stuff you read for school? Also, interesting that you’re neutral about the Neil Gaiman book, since just about everyone thinks he’s the best thing since sliced Shakespeare.
Haha, yeah. I just wasn’t that impressed with it, and the main character was abnormally stupid and whiny. Like – if you have to deal with this problem you have, JUST DEAL WITH IT AND STOP WHINING and seriously figure out how to live with these people without almost getting killed all the time. It really irritated me.
I’ll probably still read that graveyard book though if I get the time.
i think it’s interesting that order of the phoenix is your least favorite in the series. i know a lot of people find harry annoying in that book, but i thought that after all he’s been through, he’s pretty justified in being angry. plus, he’s 15. what 15-year-old boy isn’t stupid? and i actually really liked sirius black’s character. my least favorite in the series is chamber of secrets. i don’t even really know why….i just don’t care for it much.
yeah, i know harry is 15 and can pretty much be expected to act the way he does, but it’s still really annoying. and it really bothers me that he’s obsessed with sirius black. and sirius black is really whiny too. i know he’s been locked up forever and is trying to live vicariously through harry/make harry is best friend because he basically thinks harry is james and everything, but it still annoys me.
but i’ve still never skipped reading it when i re-read all of them
