At the beginning of the year, Shannon and I (and possibly Megan?) made a goal to read 50 books by the end of this year. Shannon and I were discussing a couple of days ago how we didn’t think we would be able to make it because that would require about a book a week. However, I just looked at my list (and added a couple of audiobooks I’ve listened to at work – I’m counting those as “reading” them because it’s basically the same thing) and I realized I’m actually not doing too badly. I have 22 books already read, am currently reading one, and have another 3-5 in my queue just waiting for their turns!
Here’s my list. I realize it’s Harry Potter-heavy because I was on a kick at the beginning of the year. And I promise I don’t only read mindless literature, of which most of these pretty much are, I just haven’t been inspired to read anything deep lately. I am currently reading 2 nonfiction books and a travel writing book, but I don’t read those consistently. They’ll make their ways onto this list eventually…
1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, J.K. Rowling
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling
4. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, J.K. Rowling
5. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, J.K. Rowling
6. Quidditch through the Ages, J.K. Rowling
7. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling
8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling
9. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling
10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling
11. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery
12. Dead Men’s Hearts, Aaron Elkins
13. Digital Fortress, Dan Brown
14. Murder in the Queen’s Armes, Aaron Elkins
15. Twilight, Stephenie Meyer
16. Angels and Demons, Dan Brown
17. Midnight Sun, Kat Martin
18. Past Perfect, Susan Isaacs
19. Make No Bones, Aaron Elkins
20. The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Douglas Adams
21. Turncoat, Aaron Elkins
22. Bare Bones, Kathy Reichs
50! i signed up for 100. but i’m pretty sure i’m going to change it to 50, it’s much more sane.
p.s. i consider the little prince to be deep. but that’s me.
also, i don’t know anything about twilight, but isn’t midnight sun part of that series? why does it say it’s written by someone else?
Did you like Digital Fortress? I couldn’t finish it.
shannon: the midnight sun i read this year was some trashy romance novel that i read only because i was in philadelphia, had nothing to do, and it was around. i wouldn’t read it. and yeah, i loved the little prince but i…didn’t really get it? i sort of did. a little.
mom: i didn’t really like digital fortress that much. it was pretty formulaic and like i think i told you before, the characters were kind of stupid but obsessed with talking about their fields. it didn’t even have the interesting historical things like da vinci code and angels & demons do…oh well.
Read The Time Travelers Wife. I think you will like it!
I don’t remember making this goal… but I think I recall making a similar goal to myself to read at least one non-fiction book every month. I’m failing miserably at that, btw.
Also, I really wish all my books looked like the ones in that picture.
