come further up, come further in!

Since the weather has been so nice lately (yes, even including all the rainstorms we’ve been having the last couple weeks – I love them!), I’ve been taking the opportunity to walk to and from work a few days a week instead of riding my bike or taking the bus. It’s about a 25-minute walk from our apartment to the museum, but I love the chance I get to be outside for a little while. I usually walk north on 400 E and start walking west somewhere around 4th or 5th North. Because of this, I pretty much always pass my favorite house in Provo, which is on Center Street. I love this house. I love that it’s big and old and covered in ivy. And it has a little bit of an air of mystery around it (even though I think they built apartments into it since it is so big)…we usually call it the Pevensie house. This doesn’t really make that much sense, since the house that the Pevensies stayed at wasn’t really their house, it was Professor Kirke’s house, but I think of them first anyway.

If any house in Provo has a magical doorway to another world, I think it would be this one.

reading.

At the beginning of the year, Shannon and I (and possibly Megan?) made a goal to read 50 books by the end of this year. Shannon and I were discussing a couple of days ago how we didn’t think we would be able to make it because that would require about a book a week. However, I just looked at my list (and added a couple of audiobooks I’ve listened to at work – I’m counting those as “reading” them because it’s basically the same thing) and I realized I’m actually not doing too badly. I have 22 books already read, am currently reading one, and have another 3-5 in my queue just waiting for their turns!

Here’s my list. I realize it’s Harry Potter-heavy because I was on a kick at the beginning of the year. And I promise I don’t only read mindless literature, of which most of these pretty much are, I just haven’t been inspired to read anything deep lately. I am currently reading 2 nonfiction books and a travel writing book, but I don’t read those consistently. They’ll make their ways onto this list eventually…

1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, J.K. Rowling
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, J.K. Rowling
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling
4. The Tales of Beedle the Bard, J.K. Rowling

7. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling
8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling
9. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J.K. Rowling
10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J.K. Rowling
11. The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupery

a whole month??

I kind of can’t believe how long it’s been since I’ve posted on this blog! We’ve had a lot of fun the past month, in between being busy working and Eric taking a class this summer.  We got to go on a camping trip down to Moab with Mark and Lindsay a few weeks ago, and Eric and I were able to take a short trip out to California for Katie’s wedding about two weeks ago.  We drove out to San Francisco first for a day to get a little vacation in, and then drove back to Elk Grove for the wedding, which was, of course, awesome.  I loved the outdoor reception.  Congratulations to Katie and Shaun!

And as far as summer movies have gone, we’ve seen Star Trek and Angels and Demons and are well into our list.  We LOVED Star Trek and highly recommend it.  I like Angels and Demons better than the Da Vinci Code, and it had great shots of Rome throughout.

What else…Eric’s brother Kelly got home from his mission to Milan, Italy on Friday so we spent the entire weekend with his family catching up and hanging out.

Work is going well for both Eric and me. And that’s about it.

I’m posting a Facebook album of our little jaunt California, so you all can check that out.

Hopefully it won’t be another month until I post again…
